Three steps, one phone call
Call and tell us what happened
Have your booking reference, passenger name and flight dates ready. If you cannot locate your confirmation, the agent can explain what information may be required.
We review your options
A live travel agent helps you review the fare rules that apply and the options that may be available.
You decide how to proceed
There is no obligation to continue. If you choose a paid service, we disclose the service fee before you agree.
Have these to hand
Having these ready helps the agent review your options more quickly. If you cannot locate something, the agent can explain what may be required.
- Your confirmation codeUsually a six-character booking reference from your confirmation email, sometimes called a PNR or record locator. Formats vary by airline and by where you booked.
- The passenger name as bookedIt should match the identification or travel document required for the trip — identification is checked during the travel process, and a mismatch can cause problems.
- Your flight dates and routeOriginal departure date, the airports, and the new dates you have in mind if you already know them.
- How you paidCard, points, travel credit or a third-party site — this can affect which refund options may be available.
- Where you bookedDirectly with the airline, or through an online travel agency. Some changes must go back through whoever issued the ticket.
A real person, not an automated menu
We are an independent third-party travel assistance service. A live travel agent can help you review the options that may be available for your booking, subject to the airline and ticket issuer's rules.
Disruptions don't keep business hours, so neither do we.
We will say when a change may not be worth making, or when it may be better to contact the airline directly.
The initial consultation is free. If you choose a paid service, our service fee is disclosed before you agree. Airline charges are separate.
Assistance with bookings involving many U.S. and international airlines, subject to the ticket issuer's rules.
Do you actually need us?
Many changes you can make yourself online. Here is a straight comparison so you can decide.
- Your change is simple — a date move on a flexible fare, or adding a bag.
- The airline's app or website is already showing you the option you want.
- You have time to wait on hold and are comfortable reading fare rules.
- There is no fee involved, so there is nothing to weigh up.
- The website says the change is not possible and you want a second read on why.
- You are not sure whether a refund or a travel credit may apply.
- Your itinerary has multiple segments, carriers or a codeshare involved.
- You are traveling soon and need to understand your options quickly.
- The airline cancelled and you want to review the options that may be available.
If you call and it turns out you are better off going direct to the airline, we will tell you that.
US passenger protections, in general terms
General information published by the US Department of Transportation. Whether any protection applies depends on the airline, the fare and the circumstances of the itinerary.
The 24-hour reservation rule
For bookings made directly with an airline at least seven days before departure, the airline must offer either a 24-hour cancellation with a refund, or the ability to hold the fare for 24 hours — whichever it chooses. The requirement applies to airlines, not to travel agents or online travel agencies, which may set their own policies.
If the airline cancels
Where an airline cancels or significantly changes a flight and the passenger does not accept the changed flight, rebooking, credit or other compensation, a refund to the original form of payment is generally required — and is generally issued automatically. A voucher cannot be substituted unless the passenger affirmatively accepts it.
Significant schedule changes
DOT rules describe particular changes that may make a refund available if the passenger declines the new itinerary: departure three or more hours earlier or arrival three or more hours later on a domestic itinerary (six for international), a different origin or destination airport, added connections, an involuntary downgrade, and certain accessibility-related changes. Not every schedule change qualifies.
Refunds must be prompt
Where a refund is due, it is generally required within seven business days for a credit-card purchase and 20 calendar days for other payment methods. If that passes, contact the airline or the merchant of record shown on your statement.
Delayed and lost baggage
Where a checked bag is significantly delayed, the checked-bag fee may be refundable. Airlines may also be liable for reasonable expenses caused by baggage they lose or delay, up to a set limit.
Who issues the refund
Where a ticket was bought through a travel agent or online travel agency, the entity shown as the merchant on the payment statement may be responsible for issuing the refund rather than the airline. There is also no US federal requirement for airlines to compensate passengers for a delay itself; meals and hotels during a delay follow each airline's own commitments.
Rules change, and parts of this framework are under active review. For the current rules, see the US DOT Aviation Consumer Protection pages. This summary is general information only. It is not legal advice, and SkyBuzzz does not determine eligibility.
